History of the Subaru Forester - Hadley, MA

Make an Inquiry

For years, the Subaru Forester has been a favorite compact crossover among young adventurers and fun-loving families. With the classic Subaru all-wheel drive, plus a versatile interior, the Forester never disappoints. But how did this crossover go from humble beginnings to a best-selling wagon?

The Original Subaru Forester - 1997

The first Subaru Forester was released in Japan in 1997. Its foundation was built on the platform of the Impreza, Subaru's compact car which had debuted five years earlier. While today the Forester may be seen as one of many in a market full of crossovers, it was actually quite groundbreaking for its time. It was one of the first crossover-type vehicles to be offered on the market, combining the utility-like all-wheel drive-and versatile space of an SUV with the drivability of a car. Subaru marketed the Forester with the slogan, "SUV Tough, Car Easy."

Current Forester

Since its successful debut, the Forester has gone through several generations and is now in its fourth. It has won awards like Motor Trend's 2009 and 2014 SUV of the Year as well as The Car Connection's Best Car To Buy 2014. Today's Subaru Foresters offer the same versatile capability as the first generation, with good fuel economy, a spacious and thoughtful cabin, and Subaru's standard all-wheel drive.
